Passage: Acts 3:1-10
Duration: 24 mins 49 secs
Sometimes scripture will inspire us to go beyond, to do better, and be better. Other times scripture can be corrective. Corrective scripture can cause a paradigm shift. Such a shift changes the usual way of thinking or behaving. Today’s scripture is one that has the power to cause such a shift, the power to transform. Today on Standing on the Word, Pastor Victor starts a new series entitled Practicing An Upside Down faith. From the book of Acts chapter 3, while on his way to temple to worship, Jesus’ disciple Peter healed the lame man begging for alms. Instead of provision for a day, Peter lifted the man who was born lame and gave him healing for a lifetime. Just as Peter knew that ministry is not relegated to a pew on Sunday, wouldn’t this be a better world if we would take our ministry outside of the church? The world needs our attention. We need to take the energy we gain in church out into the world. For the world needs our witness. Listen now as pastor begins this new series with the first installment Doing Ministry from the Outside In.

Long before the modern mysteries we enjoy today, the bible had a murder mystery. It was one of fratricide – brother killing brother. We know that Cain killed Abel, not because of sibling rivalry, but because of unacceptable worship. From the book of genesis chapter 4, Cain, the farmer, brings God ordinary fruit from his harvest, while Abel, the shepherd, brought to the Lord the firstborn of his flock, his very best. God favors Abel and is well pleased. He rejects Cain and Cain becomes angry and kills his brother. Today on Standing on the Word, Pastor Victor shares how our worship should be focused on pleasing God, not on self and expectation. When we don’t give Him our very best we are not giving Him what He deserves. Listen to today’s message pastor entitles, You Can’t Get Away with Murder.

Today on Standing on the Word, pastor shows us how we have a vision that stretches beyond the present capacity. We have also been gifted with the ability to organize knowing that we can accomplish more in community that we can alone. Today’s message is the familiar story of the woman who had hemorrhaged for 12 long years. She was isolated, joyless, hopeless, without resources, and tired. Because of her chronic condition she was deemed unclean and unfit for the community. Her chronic condition rendered her desperate. So desperate, it moved her to understand that by touching Jesus’ clothing she could connect with the Holy. Through her faith she recognized that if she could just touch the hem of his garment she could be made whole. Through her simple touch Jesus felt her need, and she was healed. Pastor unpacks this story in today’s message he entitles Closing the Gap between the Human and the Holy.
