Worship and Arts Ministry

The Worship & Arts Ministry continues to focus on augmentation of the worship experiences held at Mount Olive. Our preparation for worship continues to support a thematic approach to deliver one message to the congregation. The music, drama and dance that is offered to the Lord directly reflects and support the preached word of the Lord delivered by our pastor. Unity is important between the message and the arts venues that there is no place for division in the ministry. We praise God for the great things that he has done in our ministry over the last year. Some of these highlights include:

Worship Ministry
2009 Worship/Arts Initiatives
While these and other accomplishments were completed for 2008, we still face challenges for instructional staff to educate and support our members and volunteers in the areas of dance, drama and music. Although individuals want to share in ministry, trained leadership is critical to lead and guide them in learning how to share the word of God through the arts effectively. Workshops for singing and music development of the choir member, dance workshops, drama ministry workshops, and worship renewal will be given throughout the entire year to help develop new worship ideas before implementation. Many churches seek volunteers within the church to do jobs that they have not been taught how to perform. Most volunteers leave the ministry because they have a willing spirit but lack the skill set to function in the capacity in which they are trying to serve. These workshops will be planned and
executed according to the various needs of the church and to support the implementation of new worship
experiences.

Our ministry is supported by audio and visual arts as well. Coordination of rehearsal and performance
schedules, supported with new technology in the arts is critical at this point in our ministry. We are standing at the door of impacting our church development and learning with technology improvements to support our worship experience needs.

2008 Worship/Arts Accomplishments
Mass Choir supports worship with a new and improved sound quality to their singing. Vocal production,
quality of sound, abilities to site read sheet music has increased tremendously for those who have supported and participated in the mass choir activities. Mass Choir singing continues to support all major worship events in our liturgical season and church calendar.

Friends of the Groom shared with members of the drama ministry to show various ways to incorporate
drama into our worship experience. With a performance on Friday, a full workshop on Saturday, and
performances into our worship experience on Sunday, techniques were learned that were duplicated throughout the entire year. The Drama department used tableaus to recreate the 14 Stations of the Cross and the children choir presented tableaus during Children Emphasis Sunday in June.

Mount Olive Presents Concert Series shared many concerts throughout the year to give praise and glory unto God. During Black History Month we were delighted to have the North Carolina A& T Fellowship Gospel Choir in concert.

Other concerts included Four Voices, featuring voices from the ministry like Carol & Robert Fields, Carl Leach and Bessie Wilson.

For the first time, members were excited during the month of August to hear Inspiration – A Jazz Night
featuring the smooth sounds of Brian Lenair on saxophone.

Our Children and Youth Ministry with the support of staff members, shared a program in June entitled V For Victory, and they ended the year with our Christmas Production Angels Aware.
