Our youth representatives to the Church Board remain an area where challenges to identify interested and capable youth to fulfill those responsibilities. We are in the process of observing the new youth who seem to project great potential for assuming leadership roles in a new administration next year. We continued working the Pastor’s Vision of a Youth Council where Youth identify, plan and execute programming in accordance with ministerial objectives. This year, we began incorporating our new vision of “Being and Becoming” and are planning on using “Character Counts” structured teaching materials during Bible Study and Devotional Moments. These materials are designed for forming godly character and developing life skills which are pragmatic, showing youth how to work at home and in groups to achieve personal and group goals. The Youth Counsel is based on youth talking to other youth to generate ideas for optional youth activities, leaders who attend meetings and report back to their organizations on planned activities. We are using e-mail, telephone and personal requests to express invitations and advertize opportunities for growing this ministry.
We are encouraging our youth to participate in serviceoriented projects and Bible Study Programs, as well as come to church and participate in the “fun” activities. For 2009, we will identify a service construction support project in addition to adopting a department at Cherrydale Rehabilitation Center in response to the call to “serve.” The Youth expressed that they understood the service aspect of the ministry.
