Christain Education

The mission of the Christian Education Ministry is to promote God centered learning and understanding that will provide a solid foundation in the Christian faith. The Christian Education ministry has assumed the educational mandate of the Baptist Training Union to provide foundational teaching in the Christian faith with clarity and attention given to upholding Baptist identity.
The vision and implementation for the Christian Education ministry will be furthered in 2009 with the development of a vision statement; the formation of a church-wide Christian Education council; and development of church-wide educational goals and objectives. Below are listed some of the singular accomplishments of the Christian Education Ministry and initiatives for 2009:

2009 Christian Education Initiatives
  • Sunday School will use evaluations and planning attendance as part of a system to increase teaching effectiveness and Sunday School participation.
  • Sunday school and VBS will be utilizing the Resource library as well as the computer technology labs to increase learning opportunities to a technologically savvy generation.
  • In addition to summer programming, VBS will hold an additional “mini-camp” to help provide additional activity and instructional opportunity for students during winter break or spring break.
  • Library will be using an electronically based checkout system with inventory control barcodes on materials. The software will be linked with Power Church to provide consistent accountability.
  • Education committee will conduct investigative work into the feasibility of endowment of scholarship funds for the church. This will be an ongoing process that will involve other ministry areas within the church.
 
2008 Christain Education Accomplishments
  • Sunday School meeting as a unit monthly for the purposes of lesson planning (Fall 2008).
  • Implementation of Teacher Evaluation program to assess and improve teaching skills in Sunday school classrooms. (Fall 2008/2009)
  • Successfully conducted week long Vacation Bible School program with church-wide participation. (July 2008)
  • Library culled books and materials and begun inventory and asset protection of library materials. (Spring 2008 into Feb. 2009)
  • Church-wide Bible Study on the subject of “A Journey through the Covenant”, with large attendance and effective learning taking place. (Spring 2008)
  • Dissemination of nearly $31,000 in scholarship funds to church youth and young adult for college and graduate education. (Summer 2008)
  • Graduates Recognition Service in which students who have moved from one level of education to another are recognized for their achievement. (Summer 2008)
